Job Summary

Verum Artes seeks an experienced Sustainability Specialist to lead environmental initiatives for a global materials solutions leader. The ideal candidate brings expertise in environmental law, permitting processes, and stakeholder management across the mining lifecycle. This strategic role requires exceptional communication skills, project leadership capabilities, and a passion for implementing impactful sustainability strategies. Fluency in Dutch and ISO14001 experience are essential.

Transform the Future of Sustainable Mining in the Netherlands

Join our client, a global leader in material solutions, as a key member of their Sustainability Netherlands department. In this pivotal position, you will manage the complete mining lifecycle across Dutch operations while ensuring environmental compliance and driving post-mining transformation initiatives. You’ll collaborate with site managers, local teams, and the global sustainability department to create cohesive strategies that balance operational needs with environmental responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all phases of the mining lifecycle in the Netherlands, prioritizing long-term environmental and operational sustainability
  • Ensure full compliance with Dutch and EU mining legislation, environmental regulations, and sustainability standards
  • Provide expert guidance on permitting processes, land rehabilitation strategies, and post-mining transformation projects
  • Develop and nurture relationships with government authorities, municipalities, local communities, and environmental organizations
  • Collaborate with European and global sustainability teams to implement consistent environmental policies and initiatives
  • Integrate renewable energy solutions into post-mining site planning to maximize sustainable land use
  • Lead environmental impact assessments (EIA) and comprehensive sustainability reporting efforts

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Mining Engineering, Sustainability, or related field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in mining sustainability, environmental compliance, or ecological coordination
  • ISO14001 experience preferred
  • Demonstrated expertise with environmental impact assessments, land rehabilitation, and post-mining redevelopment
  • In-depth knowledge of Dutch mining regulations and European sustainability frameworks
  • Experience integrating renewable energy solutions into former mining locations
  • Exceptional stakeholder management skills and ability to represent sustainability initiatives as a credible ambassador
  • Proven track record in effective sustainability project execution and oversight
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining strong collaborative relationships
  • Fluent Dutch speaker; English proficiency advantageous
